Jacob Black, a fictional werewolf/shapeshifter, in author Stephenie Meyer's famous vampire Twilight series. When we first meet this character he is still a human, but in the second, third, and fourth books we deal with him as an immortal werewolf. He is described as a Native American in a Quileute tribe. The tribe is living near Forks, Washington--the home of the main character--in La Push, Washington. Jacob Black lives with his father Billy there. Physcial growth is another part of becoming a werewolf. From limpy and lanky 15-year-old to tall and muscular forever 16-year-old werewolf. Originally Jacob was to be a supporter to Bella in discovering other character, Edward's, secret (he being a vampire). The editors and Stephenie Meyer loved his character so they decided to make his part explode: he literally was the New Moon for New Moon.
Jacob's character is quite small in Twilight, even though he offers such a huge key:sharing the secret of Edward being a vampire. When Bella becomes aware that Jacob knows something about the Cullens, she convinces him to tell her and ends up learning about the Quileiute legends and the first meeting of the Cullens. Bella warms up to Jacob, and eventually he becomes her best friend. Although, Bella is still in love with Edward when Jacob develops a crush on her.
When Edward, Bella's true love beyond soul mates, leaves, month of depression begin for Bella. Jacob becomes and grows closer to Jacob holding herself together, but not getting over Edward. Jacob turns to me even more in love with Bella, but Bella is just not interested--for she loves Edward forever and always. What makes it more complicated is Jacob is part of the Quileuite line of werewolves, a tribe that has been enemies with vampires almost since the beginning of the supernatural world itself. He undergoes his first transformation to a wolf when a nomadic and evil vampire threatens and tries to attack Bella. He's busy patrolling with his pack in the woods after the attack, while Bella puts her mind to it and once again discovers who her loved one really is. Bella jumps off a cliff, after a series of other life-threating stunts, because she discovers whenever she is reckless anbd threatens her own life she hears Edward's voice. Hearing his soft velvet voice becomes like a drug to her, so she does the ultimate, jumps of a cliff. Without realizes how cold the water is, she jumps in and isn't able to swim up, so Jacob comes after hunting a vampire and losing her in the water and saves Bella. (But unknowingly at the time, the other evil nomadic vampire, was in the water very close to Bella) When Alice--Edward's sister who is gifting with the power of visions--sees Bella jump off a cliff, she imagines her to be dead, so comes to comfort Edward. Alice can't see the werewolves, which is why she didn't see Jacob coming to rescue Bella. Well, when Edward's other sister, Rosalie, shares the news with Edward he goes to Italy to provoke evil vampire so he can join Bella in whereever life after death is. Alice comes to speak with Bella, and then sees this, so they rush yo Italy leaving Jacob alone nad hurt. Jacob is disgusted and appauled at how easily Bella welcomes Edward back into her life like he had never left and had never hurt her. Jacob reminds Edward of his tribe's treaty with the Cullen family, which states that the Cullens are not allowed to bite any humans.
Jacob attempts to distance himself from Bella by not returning her phone calls and refusing to see her, enraged by the fact that Bella plans to become a vampire. Later, Jacob visits Bella and Edward to discuss the vampire Victoria's return, and he tells Bella that he misses her and wishes that they could remain friends. With Edward's approval, Bella begins to visit Jacob on a regular basis. On one of these visits, Jacob tells Bella that he is in love with her and that he wants her to choose him over Edward. Bella is caught off guard by his confession and tells him she only thinks of him as a friend. He forcibly kisses her, much to her displeasure, and she reacts by punching him in the jaw and breaking her hand. Jacob's pack of werewolves and the Cullen family join forces to defeat Victoria and the army of vampires she has created. Before the battle, Jacob overhears Edward and Bella discussing their engagement, angering him greatly. Jacob threatens suicide and Bella, in an attempt to stop him, asks him to kiss her. Afterward, she comes to the realization that she is in love with Jacob, but her love for Edward is greater. The epilogue is written from Jacob's point of view; angry and hurt at Bella's decision to become a vampire, he runs away in his wolf form to escape his pain.
Jacob returns after an absence to attend Bella and Edward's wedding; though still visibly pained by her decisions, he tells Bella that he wants her to be happy. He is outraged when Bella inadvertently informs him that she and Edward plan to make love before she becomes a vampire, because he knows that Edward's strength could kill her. When Bella and Edward return from their honeymoon, Jacob learns that she is pregnant with her and Edward's half-vampire, half-human child and that she has become desperately weak. When he informs his wolf pack of Bella's pregnancy, their leader Sam plans to attack the Cullens and kill Bella and the baby because of the threat he believes the child presents. Jacob, who feels that the Cullens are innocent, disobeys Sam's command and separates himself from the pack, fulfilling his birthright as an Alpha wolf. He is joined in his new pack by Seth and Leah Clearwater, and they aid the Cullens in protecting Bella. After the birth of Renesmee, Bella and Edward's daughter, Jacob imprints on her. The enmity between Jacob and the Cullens is dispelled, and he and Edward come to view each other as brothers.
Bella describes Jacob as a "happy person" who extends this happiness to the people around him. As Jacob's character emerges in New Moon, he is shown to be cheery, passionate, adventurous, but quick in temper. Jacob is also able to phase at will into a giant wolf. His body temperature is warmer than a human's, reaching about 108.9 °F (42.7 °C), which allows him to withstand very cold weather. His body also heals quickly, he can communicate with his werewolf pack telepathically when in wolf form, and he is physically stronger and faster. Werewolves do not age if they regularly turn into their wolf form, with Jacob's body physically grown to the equivalent of a 25-year-old. Once they begin phasing, a werewolf may "imprint"—a method of finding one's soul-mate—on someone, and will act as a close family member if the imprintee is not yet old enough to be their lover. Jacob imprints on Edward and Bella's daughter Renesmee in Breaking Dawn.
